FACEPALM! Seriously? That's like telling me you didn't have any green beer on St. Patrick's Day.
Eat right the day before Thanksgiving. Eat right the week after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving, you should totally pig out.
I mean Give Thanks.
I mean Give Thanks AND Pig Out.
Anyone Who Says You Should Eat Clean on Thanksgiving Can SUCK IT!
Thanksgiving should be a free day. And, lets get real, lets plan in a few more free meals for leftovers also.
Your schedule could look like this:
Monday, 24th: Follow your plan
Tuesday, 25th: Follow your plan
Wednesday, 26th: Follow your plan
THANKSGIVING: Free day
Friday, 28th: Two free meals (leftovers)
Saturday, 29th: One free meal (leftovers)
Sunday, 30th: One free meal (leftovers)
Monday, 1st: Follow your plan
Tuesday, 2nd: Follow your plan
Wednesday, 3rd: Follow your plan
Thursday, 4th: Follow your plan
Friday, 5th: Follow your plan
Saturday, 6th: Free day
Sunday, 8th: Follow your plan
If you look at the above plan, you'll notice something really interesting: Sanity.
As in, you can actually follow that plan. And enjoy yourself.
And, even that, is totally made up. You can make up whatever you want. If I was back home in California this year, I might extend it to five free days, or whatever. If it's at someone else's house and I don't get any leftovers, I might just do one day. Whatever it is, I have a plan. It has a beginning and an end.
Just know this — It's not about what you eat on Thanksgiving, it's about how you eat the other 364 days of the year.
How Josh Does Thanksgiving
I know I'm going to have five plates of turkey and stuffing and pour gravy on everything. I'll put gravy on my stuffing, gravy on my vegetables, I'll even put gravy on my cranberry sauce. And for desert I'll have a wicked slice of chocolate cake (with gravy).
I eat, and I hang out with people I love.
And then the next couple days I totally dig in on leftovers.
And then, next week, I'll get back on track like nothing ever happened.
Give Thanks and Be With People You Love
And eat. Really.
The whole point of "free days" really, is to be with people you care about, and not have to think about it.
Please don't ever feel guilty about food, but espeically don't feel guilty about eating too much at Thanksgiving, it's an eating holiday for crying-out-loud.
I'm a huge fan of eating things that support your goals most of the time. But Thanksgiving is a celebration of abundance and family and friends, and we traditionally celebrate that by eating a bunch.
It's just a day. And have some left-overs over the weekend. And then, on Monday the 1st, get back on your plan. It's not that big a deal.
Enjoy =)
It's Time for #HabitsNotDiets
Most of the time, "diet" books give you ridiculous guidelines, and preach at you about what to eat.
And then, after you've got this new dogmatic set of rules, you're really no closer to eating any better in real life than you were before.
So forget about diets, and start working on habits. Follow a program that leaves space for real life.
I'm hinting at my book, by the way =)
Obviously it's THE book on diet habits. Really cool, it's already #1 on Amazon's Hot New Releases in Weight Training chart, and it isn't even out yet!
