Harry Connick Jr training with Kettlebells and Battling Ropes on the Today Show

UPDATE: Original video taken down years ago. Here’s a new video in 2017, he’s still working out with kettlebells.

This is just s snippet from the show.  The rest of it I was really impressed with just what a normal chill dude he was. But I shouldn’t be, I ran into him back in the day and he was the same.

I shouldn’t be too surprised though, fifteen years ago when I was working at Express for Men (at the time it was “Structure”) in the Beverly Center, he came in and bought some stuff.  He came in in the morning when no one else was there, bought some stuff, was really normal and cool, and left.

What really works about working out with kettlebells and battling ropes while on the road is just that – they’re tools that are extremely portable.  You could bring three kettlebells and a rope and have everything you need for a really kick ass travel workout.

Case in point – when I went to Brazil I brought a 53lb kettlebell and some gymnastics rings, and stayed in amazing shape just doing kettlebell snatches, military presses presses, pullups, bent over rows, dips, and pistols.

If you need compact, portable, and complete, you can’t go wrong with kettlebells.

And if you’ve never played with battling ropes before, you’d be shocked at what a cardiovascular ass kicking rope intervals are.

Another update, still kettlebell lifting:

Love kettlebells, but if you think I’m lugging around a 53 pound lump of cast iron when I travel for business OR pleasure, you’re out of your mind. Not to mention that I bet airlines wouldn’t look too kindly on the idea that you want to carry 53 extra pounds when these days they even charge for checked baggage.

Besides, you don’t need ANY equipment to stay fit on the road. What’s wrong with bodyweight workouts?

Definitely nothing wrong with bodyweight workouts!!! I’m a huge fan!

And anyone who is creative can get a great push, pull and squat in bodyweight.

I just am all about hip extension, so it was worth it to me to take my 53lb kettlebell to Brazil.
