Have You Ever Accidentally Gotten Fat?

I accidentally got fat.

Note: As a rule, I almost never blog about myself – this really isn’t that kind of blog.  But after I posted this on Facebook, it got enough of a response that I’m pretty sure it will be useful for you to hear about, so I reposted it here:

I had a pretty rough year emotionally, and found myself all of a sudden not liking what I saw in the mirror.  Being a fitness author, it was totally embarrassing.

So I immediately measured myself, and then began eating “better”.  Here was where I started:

184 lbs

20%

37 lbs fat

147 lbs lean

Then, here is where I was at after one month of just “eating better”:

(Stopped eating food that is obviously crap.  Started eating mostly Meso quality food.)

175 lbs

15.5%

27 lbs fat

148 lbs lean

So I lost 9 lbs on the scale, and dropped 4.5% body fat.

I plateaued there for a couple weeks.  Since I don’t like to plateau, I then started a carb cycling plan.

Here’s what has happened after three weeks of following a carb cycling plan:

168 lbs

13%

22 lbs fat

146 lbs lean

Down another 7 lbs, and down another 2% body fat.

Good fat loss and body fat percentage drop, but the muscle loss in unacceptable.  Time to up my protein.

I’ll keep you guys posted in another three weeks!

Right now I’m on week 3 of a 12 week carb cycling challenge I’m doing with a few friends.  Doing it with friends is helpful – I need the accountability just like anyone else.
