How Is Your Crack Habit Going?

It turns out that just the right combinations of sugar, fat and salt are only slightly less addictive than crack.

Wishing for crack

Guess who is really awesome at combining sugar, fat and salt?

Yup, fast food companies and junk food companies.

Junk food companies are the Columbian drug lords of our generation.

Ever see the movie Blow with Johnny Depp?  It's like that, except the junk food companies make more money.

The best food scientists in the world are hard at work making junk food more addictive.

I'm telling you this so you can understand two things:

1.) Stop Beating Yourself Up About How Hard It Is

Really, beating yourself up makes no difference.

You just have to accept that it is really hard.

Once you can stop complaining about how hard it is, and get with the simple truth that if you do the "hard work" of preparing, then it's actually really simple and easy.

2.) Beating Your Addiction To Junkfood/Crack Requires Structure and Support

There is a reason that alcoholics go to AA.  And you could look at food addiction the same way.

It isn't easy.  At all.

You will be put in social situations where you will be expected to eat junk food or consume too many liquid calories.

Most people know what to eat, they fail in terms of lack of preparation or lack of structure and support.

Crack Dealer

You could actually plan ahead for what you are going to say when the crack dealer at work says "Come on, you can have just one doughnut!"

Am I the only one having flashbacks to the D.A.R.E. Program?  (apologies to anyone reading this who doesn't remember the 80's)

Look, it isn't really about knowing what to eat.

It's about eating it in real life.

You've got fast food companies making sure you are physically addicted to junk food.

You have your friends and family giving you social pressure to eat junk food.

Spend less time on what to eat.

Spend more time "Murphy Proofing" your diet.

Planning.

Preparation.

Structure and support.

Do the work to make it easy.

Nice analogy Josh – it is true we need to plan our meals and our cheats so we rule it rather than them ruling us

Totally dude. Seriously, if I can find a way to at least psychologically addict my clients to vegetables, I will!
