That's a great question.
First off, lets make a distinction. It's not that you can't work the same bodypart two days in a row. After all, look at people who run track, they "work legs" every day. And before you say "wait that's not the same" take a look at someone training for the 200m and tell me that's not an intense leg workout.
What you don't want to do is, you don't want to BODYBUILD the same muscle group two days in a row. Huge difference. You don't want to blast your biceps to death two days in a row.
You can do full body functional movements every day if you do it right.
Some Powerlifters bench 10x a week and squat every day. Some Olympic Weightlifters Snatch and Clean and Jerk every day. What they don't do, they don't DESTROY themselves every day. They have easy days. They have hard days. But they understand that building strength and training to failure are not the same thing. Usually, building strength and training to failure are the opposite of each other.
