Lauren Conrad says her newest diet secret is making herself a “snack plate” – a plate of sliced turkey, cucumber, apples, and hummus.
And she says that the longer she eats these super clean snack plates, the less she craves burgers and pizza.
Lauren was on the cover of Shape a year ago, and it was clear that she’s a girl who really had to work to get this lean. It’s cool to see that she’s really turning it into a lifestyle.
While most of us set ourselves up to fail with crazy 12 week programs and crash diets, Lauren is using simple diet strategies like snack plates, and simple bodyweight circuit workouts to stay on top of her fitness for the long term.

Snack Plates like this are my favorite recommendation for clients when they are first starting to eat clean.
They’re easy and fast – my two favorite things.
Protein is The Foundation of a Good Snack Plate – Start with some really good sliced deli meat (like Boar’s Head, not like baloney)
Caveman Carbs – Add some fruit. Easy.
Healthy Fat – Top it off with a good fat like
mixed nuts or almond butter, especially if you are craving salty.
An even easier option for Healthy Fat – just pop 5 salmon oil caps or 1 or 2 krill oil caps. Healthy fat boosts your metabolism and makes you feel full.
Easy.
Quick.
Effective.
It’s clean, “caveman food.” Everything on the plate you could hunt or gather.
Its perfectly balanced.
That’s what I call rockstar fuel.

I agree with the snack plate idea, but you must have been able to find a better picture than the cover of a magazine known to airbrush their models so they look anorexic?
Josh Hillis says
That’s your complaint?
That celebrities get airbrushed? =)
Lauren Conrad is legit, check her paparazzi pictures on the beach:

So would this “snack plate” be a meal? Or would it be in between meals for a snack? Seems like a lot of calories for just a snack.
Josh Hillis says
A snack plate is totally a meal.
Good question!

Josh, I love what you stand for; you’re one of the few fitness blogs in my RSS reader.
My only complaint is still a major complaint. There are a lot of women (and men) out there that don’t understand what you know and they idolize air brushed photos and end up with very unhealthy eating habits and body image issues. I see them on the treadmill for hours at a time and it often goes deeper than a workout problem. It would be great if everyone understood the importance of a healthy diet and proper weight training, but they don’t. I love the real photos of your clients because it promotes health, but I’m sure those are harder to put online. Thanks for backing yourself up with paparazzi photos, I think it at least shows you’ve done your research and you’re not just posting air brushed photos of cocaine addicted celebs.
