Three of the biggest questions I get:
1.) Am I in starvation mode?
2.) Do I have a slow/damaged metabolism?
3.) What do I do when I'm "doing everything right" and I hit a plateau?
It's funny, because these questions get asked, usually, by the absolute most motivated clients. The ones that have been keeping a food journal and working out religiously, but feel like it's getting harder and harder to make progress.
My friend Leigh Peele just wrote a book that answers those three questions with more detail and more science than anything else I have ever seen.
It's like the bible for re-setting and fixing a hurt metabolism.
The process of fixing these problems actually has a straightforward equation that she breaks down for you (page 149 or 157, depending on your situation)
But the first part of the book is an in depth look at how metabolism works, the hormones at play, and possible disorders. This book actually makes most of the other books that discuss this look like over-simplified pop cheeseball lip service. Leigh breaks it down for real.
I've been reading Leigh's stuff for years (Five years? Ten years? I don't know, a while), and she's the go-to person for fixing damaged metabolisms.
Who Should/Shouldn't Get This Book
NOT FOR: This isn't a book for someone who is new to working out or dieting.
NOT FOR: This isn't for someone who hasn't gotten fat loss results yet.
NOT FOR: Someone who hasn't dieted seriously.
NOT FOR: This isn't for someone who struggles with habits like keeping a food journal or food preparation.
IT'S FOR YOU: If you are a trainer, this is mandatory reading.
IT'S FOR YOU: If you've been dieting hard for months or years, or have gone through multiple periods of hard dieting.
IT'S FOR YOU: If you are a hard-core super motivated fat loss client – especially if you feel like you've gotten stuck – you should to read this.
IT'S FOR YOU: Really, who I am thinking of that this is for – if you are the female client who's dieted hard for a long time, you do metabolic strength training, you do high intensity interval cardio – you know you're fairly lean, but you're not as lean as you want to be, and you feel like it's getting harder for you to get lean – you NEED this book. NEED.
P.S. There are a lot of books where I'm like "Oh I need to tell people about this 'cause it'll make a difference for them." Starve Mode is an ebook that made a difference for me. that I read, I'm re-reading, and I'm taking lots of notes. Lots of new information, presented really well.
