The big takeaway here is that the level to which you stick to the program is more important than the program itself. That's why I actually don't care what nutrition program my clients use. Many of them are following Eating Clean to the letter. Some of them are following Eating For Life, The Zone, The Paleo Diet. Those are all really effective fat loss diets, so it doesn't matter to me at all which one it is.
So the game isn't really about "finding the right diet", it's about making it work in your life. Getting strategic about how to get good food worked into your day to day existence.
I just had to show this video to you guys, 'cause I love it when I can find research to back up my personal experience. Also, I met Mike at the last Ryan Lee Bootcamp, and I've been looking for an excuse to feature some of his nutrition brilliance here on the Lose Stubborn Fat! Blog.
Mike Roussell is a nutrition expert and is author of Warp Speed Fat Loss with Alwyn Cosgrove.
Mike wrote all of the meal plans, Alwyn wrote all of the workouts.
Warp Speed Fat Loss has the best "done for you" meal plans I've ever seen.
As far as the workouts in Warp Speed Fat Loss, they look exactly like the workouts I do with my clients and in my books. I was actually really stoked, because Alwyn is considered the best fat loss trainer in the world. So to see that his fat loss workouts and mine are nearly identical, was pretty validating for me.

Josh News: I was on TV! (in case you missed it when I first posted)
Health Styles, a local exercise equipment company asked me to be their kettlebell expert.
Here I am demonstrating some kettlebell moves for them on the local NBC affiliate morning show: Colorado and Co:

I am sure that people who stick with a low-fat/high carb/calorie-restricted diet eventually lose weight. To that extent your takeaway is correct.
The problem is that some diets, such as low fat, have a much higher drop-out rate. The type of a diet a person goes on would have an impact on the odds of their success.

The diets I mentioned: Eating Clean, Eating For Life, The Zone, The Paleo Diet.
All are moderate in terms of protein carbs and fat, are totally reasonable to maintain, and I can manipulate to make sure people feel full.
So I agree with what you are saying – low fat diets are evil. In fact, low fat / low calorie makes people mean.
