The Difference in Advanced Food Journal vs. Beginner Food Journal

Everyone knows I'm a big proponent of food journals.   IStock_000003262279Small

What people don't know is that I use them for completely different things with a client who's brand new vs. a client who's been with me five years.  It's a totally different game.

It's a totally different game.  And if you're a beginner playing the advanced game or vice versa, that could be exactly why you aren't getting results.

You know the *obvious* punchline: Most people need to take a second look at what the "beginner" food journal game really includes.

And while you probably saw that coming, you probably don't know which category I would classify you into, and what you should be focusing on in your food journal this week.

The Beginner Fat Loss Game

I define a fat loss beginner as anyone who hasn't gotten results in over a month, any girl over 26% body fat, or any guy over 16% body fat.

So that means, some people who've been working out a while might be a beginner again right now.

In the beginning, the only game worth playing is habits.

Habits are ALL that matters: Shopping habits, food prep habits, cooking habits, ect.

You keep a food journal for two reasons:

1.) To observe the habits you have now

2.) To strategize better habits

The Advanced Fat Loss Game

I'm going to simplify things and say that advanced is anyone who got results last month, or any girl under 26% body fat, or any guy under 16% body fat.

Another way to say the same thing: If you're Advanced, you've already got your shopping, prepping, and cooking habits worked out.  And getting your shopping, prepping, and cooking habits worked out is enough to get any woman under 26% bf or any dude 16% bodyfat.

At this stage, we need to take a look at QUALITY and QUANTITY

You keep a food journal for two reasons:

1.) To observe the quality and quantity you are eating now

2.) To strategize ways to eat better quality and/or less quantity, depending on your goals

Same Food Journal, Different Games
(and why Beginners don't get results)

While I've been known for working with the "advanced" group, most people in the world fall into the "beginner" group.

And it's important to note that food games each group needs to play are totally different.  In fact, most beginners DON'T get results because they are focusing on the advanced game instead of the beginner game.
