The Most Inherently Motivating Thing I Have Ever Seen

Just what I always wanted!  Today one of my clients brought in an anatomically correct replica of 5lbs of fat.  It was pretty much the grossest thing I’ve ever seen.  I set it by the keyboard so you can get a feel for how big it is, and then I took a picture with my phone.

I hope the picture gives you some sense of how gross it is.  I gotta tell you though, it’s ten times more fun/gross to actually pick it up.

My client set it down in his kitchen, and then immediately threw away all the processed food in his house.

I keep asking myself – what is so motivating about seeing 5lbs of gross fat on the table?  Well, the only thing I can think of more gross than 5lbs fat on the table is 5lbs of fat sitting inside me.

It turns out that you can buy replica fat in all different sizes.  1lb, 5lbs, 1oz.  What ever you are in the mood for.

5lbs of Muscle vs. 5lbs of Fat

You’ve always heard that muscle weighs more than fat right?

Here is exactly what we mean:

Same scale weight, but the muscle takes up less space.

And the muscle jiggles less.

That’s why you can lose fat, gain muscle, and have the same weight on the scale…

But be wearing two sizes smaller clothes and look 5x hotter.

haha – that looks gross – is it squishy? I’m studying to be a doctor so I have to dissect cadavers and watch surgeries and it’s amazing what real, live fat looks like – amazingly brightly coloured (you can make it even brighter by eating more coloured vegies – carotene in fat soluble vitamins! Random science fact for today…) but it expands to fill whatever space…

I love the hilarious honesty of your site – I have gone from 64kg to 56kg in 5 months, have leveled and am now onto my ‘stubborn fat’ – thanks for your help!

    Hi Emelie!

I’m stoked you dropped 10kg! Awesome awesome work!

And next time I do something really dangerous, I’ll make sure to eat some bright colored veggies just in case!

I should print this out and show it to people next time they tell me that lifting weights and gaining muscle will make them fat/”bulky” (whatever the hell THAT means).

Completely gross, but also incredibly motivating! Thanks for all your great articles and advice, Josh, they have helped me lose 10 pounds of fat, and gain 6 pounds of muscle. I was feeling frustrated recently that although I had lost inches all over, the scale weight was still the same, and had to remind myself that body fat counts more than weight!!!

By the way, Josh, did you know that a kettlebell workout is featured in this month’s Self Magazine? Looks like the kettlebell is going mainstream!

Josh…that is actually nastier than fake poop! I’m putting my jogging shoes on now…a very effective picture. I may have to do something like this over on my site. It is one of the most motivating things I have ever seen! I’m going to “Digg” this post!

This is very inspiring post and site. I know that all those who are serious about muscle mass building and even about the general fitness only , in deed need as much genuine and usefull real life informations and guidelines in order to advance fast. I would also like to see more practical hints about different muscle gain workout technics if possible. I follow One which makes me advance really fast but I’m not closed to learn and accept more and better off course. Thanks….
